The Best Portable Exhibition Stands for Small Businesses

By · February 26, 2026

The Best Portable Exhibition Stands for Small Businesses

If you run a small business, the best portable exhibition stands are the ones that fit your space, fit in your car and go up without tools. For most small teams that means a fabric back wall, a matching counter and one or two slim displays for height. A roller display starts from £64.95 ex VAT, a 3m straight fabric wall from £388.95, a pop up fabric wall from £404.95 and a complete kit from £999.95.

Every price below is a live Stand Central price, ex VAT, with the printed graphic included. Sizes and weights come from each product page.

Most portable exhibition displays fall into five groups: roller banner stands, fabric walls, pop up frames, tension frame kits or modular systems and LED lightboxes. Nearly every display stand in this guide is lightweight and portable enough for one exhibitor to carry, so the right choice comes down to your space, your budget and how often you exhibit.

Key takeaways for a small business exhibitor

  • For a small business, a fabric backdrop, a counter and one or two banner stands is usually enough for a 3m x 3m space.
  • Roller banner stands are the cheapest way to add height and carry your brand, from £64.95 ex VAT.
  • A complete kit from £999.95 ex VAT is the simplest stand package if you are a startup going to your first show.
  • Fabric graphics can be swapped on the same frame, so a reusable exhibition stand keeps working after a rebrand.

One rule covers most decisions: buy the wall for the exhibition space you book most often, then add a desk and extra displays. A wall too wide for a 2m space is wasted money; one slim display on a 3m x 3m space looks empty.

How to choose the right portable display for your space

Work through these five questions in order to find the right display stands. Each one rules options in or out.

  1. What size is your space? A 3m back wall suits a 3m x 2m or 3m x 3m space. On a 2m x 2m space, a 2m wall or two slim displays fit better. For shell scheme spaces, measure the usable width between the wall uprights.
  2. Who carries it? If one person drives to the show and builds alone, keep each bag under about 10kg and choose items with carry bags or wheeled cases. Compare the weights table below. If a whole sales team travels to shows, our guide to the best portable displays for travelling sales teams compares kit by weight per bag and how it packs.
  3. Is there power? Lightboxes need a socket. In our research into 202 UK trade shows, only 7 of the 26 shell scheme rate cards that list their inclusions included power (Stand Central stand costs research, rates checked 28 September 2026).
  4. How often will you exhibit? For one or two exhibitions and trade shows a year, a fabric wall and one slim display are enough. For multiple events, frame quality matters more than the first price.
  5. Will your message change? Keep dates and offers off the main wall so the same display stand works at every show. Our guide to reusable exhibition stand design shows how that works out per show.

Each type of portable display stand, one by one

Portable display stands for exhibitions offer the same basic trade-off: the smaller the pack, the less height and stiffness you get. Most portable displays are designed for indoor halls, so check the product page if you need one outside. Fabric stands make the lightest back walls and are simple to assemble, pop-up exhibition stands give the quickest full wall, and tension frame kits take a little longer but rebuild into new shapes. Complete kit stands combine a wall, an upright display and a counter so the prints match. None of these is time-consuming to assemble after the first build.

Roller banner stands, the cheapest way to add height

Roll-up banner stands pull up from a base cassette and clip to a pole. They are the lightest option: the 850mm Expovision weighs 2.9kg, stands 2000mm tall and costs £64.95 ex VAT, while the 850mm Mantis has twist-out feet and a 2.3kg package weight for £70.95. Use them either side of a desk or as display boards at the front corners.

Roller displays are versatile and cost-effective, and a pull up banner stand is also the cheapest way to test a new message before you print a whole display stand. The Expovision comes in four widths, from the 600mm version at 1.4kg and £55.95 to the 1000mm version at £73.95, all 2000mm tall with a padded carry bag, and the print rolls back into the base. For a table top, the A4 Rhino desktop banner stand costs £43.95 each (minimum order of five). Compare all roller banners by width.

Fabric displays, the lightest 3m back wall

Fabric stands use an aluminium frame that pushes together, with a stretch fabric graphic pulled over it like a pillowcase. They are easy to assemble and fold down into one bag. The Soft Touch Straight Fabric Display 3m builds to 2950mm wide and 2320mm high, has a 6.5kg shipping weight and costs £388.95 ex VAT single-sided, or £446.95 with a printed back. The same frame comes in a range of sizes from 850mm to 6m.

We compared this exact format across seven UK suppliers. Like for like, a printed 3m wall with a bag cost from £299.95 to £650.00 ex VAT, with a median of £399.00 (Stand Central exhibition display inclusions research, prices captured 28 September 2026). See all fabric display walls.

Pop-up displays, the quickest full wall

A pop up stand uses a folding scissor frame that opens in one movement. Pop up displays build faster than tube frames and are stiffer, but bulkier to carry. The Textile 3×2 wall (1525mm wide) costs £404.95 ex VAT and the 3×3 version (2260mm wide, 9.3kg, wheeled case) £524.95, with a 210gsm 100% recycled polyester graphic. The SEG 3×3 wall is stiffer, weighs 11.2kg and costs £659.95. Compare all pop up stands.

Tension fabric and modular, a flexible display system

Tension fabric kits use thicker anodised aluminium frames in straight, curved and serpentine shapes. The WaveLine Media WLMEE Kit 01 is 2839mm wide and 2260mm high, builds in 5 to 10 minutes without tools according to its specification and costs £566.95 ex VAT. It is listed with a lifetime warranty on the hardware and one year on the print, and the carry bag is made from 100% recycled materials. If you book a larger exhibition stand some years and a smaller one in others, a modular display system rebuilds the same frames in new layouts. Browse modular exhibition stands for larger modular set-ups.

LED lightbox displays, an eye-catching backdrop

A lightbox fits LEDs behind a backlit fabric graphic, so it stays readable in a dim hall. The Boss Light LED Light Box is 850mm wide, 2000mm high and 60mm deep, weighs 13kg packed and costs £258.95 ex VAT. See all LED lightboxes.

Complete kits, a whole stand package for startups

A kit bundles a back wall, a freestanding display and a desk so the printed graphics match. The Starter Kit 3×3 includes a 2.4m Soft Touch wall, a monolith and a square fabric desk for £999.95 ex VAT. The LED Kit 3×3 pairs an SEG backdrop with LED lighting and two lightboxes for £2,374.95. For a corner space open on two sides, Exhibition Stand Kit 3 builds four LED lightboxes into an L-shaped wall for £3,149.95.

If you are a startup and want the nearest thing to a turnkey stand, I think a kit is the simplest order, because the graphics match and you only have one thing to buy. Our guide to fabric vs LED exhibition stand kits compares them in more detail, including whether lighting is worth paying for at your first show.

Adding an exhibition counter, freestanding tablet stand or brochure holder

After the back wall, a counter is the display stand most people add next. It gives the stand a front edge, somewhere to rest a laptop and space to hide bags. Counters are designed to pack small, and each counter below comes with a carry bag or case, so it travels with the wall.

A tablet on a stand is a simple way to run demos or collect enquiries without crowding the counter top, and a brochure holder keeps literature off the floor. Counters and tablet stands provide a place to talk to people, and fabric and flat-pack counters give a quick and easy setup. These point of sale extras make a small space work harder without adding another wall. See all exhibition counters.

Custom printed graphics for your brand on a banner stand, fabric display or LED lightbox

Yes, every display stand in this guide can carry your own artwork, and if you need a whole stand laid out for your space, see our custom exhibition stands. Fabric walls and counters are dye-sublimation printed on stretch polyester (260gsm on the Soft Touch 3m wall, 210gsm 100% recycled polyester on the Textile pop up wall), and both of those wall covers are machine washable at 30°C. Pull up banners are UV printed on anti-curl, anti-glare media, so the same print works at every event or exhibition you book.

FREE artwork design or proofing on every order, so you can send print-ready files or a brief. To customise one stand for different events, keep the main wall to your logo, what you do and one line of benefit, then put show offers on a pull up banner or the counter, which cost less to reprint.

How durable is a portable exhibition stand with an aluminium frame?

A good exhibition display stand is built to be put up and taken down many times. The Expovision banners are made from durable aluminium with nylon end plates, and most of these stands feature lightweight aluminium frames. The warranties below exclude the print, which is usually the first part of a display stand you replace. Warranties and carry cases as listed on each product page:

ProductListed warrantyCarry case
Expovision pull up banner1 year, print excludedPadded bag
Soft Touch 3m fabric wall1 year, print excludedPadded bag
Textile pop-up wall 3×31 year, print excludedWheeled case
Starter Kit 3×31 year, prints excludedCarry bags
WaveLine Media WLMEE Kit 01Lifetime on hardware, 1 year on the printRecycled carry bag
Warranty terms and cases as published on each product page.

If you will exhibit several times a year, it is worth paying a little more for a frame with a longer hardware warranty and a wheeled or padded case. Fabric prints can be replaced on their own, so a worn or out-of-date print does not mean buying a new frame.

Sustainable and recyclable portable exhibition stands

Reusing the same frame across events and exhibitions is the biggest saving, and the materials matter too. Portable display solutions vary a lot here. The Textile pop-up wall uses a 210gsm 100% recycled polyester print, and the WaveLine Media kit and WaveLine Counter M come with a carry bag or case made from 100% recycled materials. For a fully recyclable piece, the 1.8m Cardboard Triangle Totem is corrugated cardboard from an FSC-certified source, made by our UK manufacturing partner, printed on all three faces, and costs £229.95 ex VAT. When you are finished with it, it goes in standard cardboard recycling. For a whole stand in the same material, our cardboard exhibition stands run from a kit with a 1.68m wall, counter and banner stand up to a 4m x 4m island, and one person can carry and build most pieces. The lightest portable exhibition stand for one person

If you travel to trade shows and events by train or build alone, the easy to transport option beats the cheapest one. These portable exhibition display stands are easy to set up alone and pack down for easy transportation, so they move between events in a car rather than a van. In the table below, the Soft Touch fabric exhibition wall gives the most print width for its weight, and despite their portability the Soft Touch and Textile walls both stand over 2.2m tall. Look for stands that are easy to transport and store, and opt for stands that include a wheeled case once the bag goes over about 10kg. Whichever display stand you pick, practise the build once before the show. Published weights from each product page:

A straight fabric wall, a fabric desk and one slim display give a complete, branded 3m exhibition stand that one person can carry in two trips from the car park.

Tabletop displays for a small stand

If your stand is just a table in a shared space, a full back wall may be more than you need. A tabletop pop-up display sits on the table behind you and puts your brand at eye level for people walking past.

Our OneFabric tabletop pop-up display is 1524mm wide and 1524mm high, with a polyester stretch fabric graphic and a carry bag, and has a lifetime warranty on the hardware. It costs £307.95 ex VAT for the 5ft version, or £374.95 for 8ft wide. Versions with end caps cost £335.95 and £403.95. For a counter or reception desk, the Rhino A4 desktop roller banner costs £43.95 ex VAT and weighs 0.3kg packed.

A tabletop display and a roller banner beside the table is about the lowest cost way to look like a proper exhibitor, and both are quick to set up on your own. If you later book a 3m x 3m stand, the roller banner moves with you and the tabletop display can sit on your counter.

Most of the stands in this guide are made for indoor halls. If some of your events are outdoor events, look at our outdoor exhibition stands instead, or a banner built for outdoor use such as the Blizzard banner (from £179.95 ex VAT) or the double-sided Expovision outdoor roller banner (£261.95).

Roller banner or pop up display for a small exhibition stand

On a 2m x 2m space the choice is usually two roller displays or one pop up wall. Two 850mm Expovision banners cost £129.90 ex VAT, weigh 2.9kg each and give 1.7m of print side by side. The Textile 3×2 pop up wall costs £404.95, gives one continuous 1525mm wide print with no gap, weighs 7.25kg and comes in a wheeled case.

Banners suit a tight budget or a small car. A wall looks more like a finished stand from the aisle, and you can still add a banner at the front later. Our guide to the best portable signage for exhibition stands compares the banners, totems and desktop signs that go with it.

What a small business exhibitor should check before buying

Across seven UK suppliers, these extras changed the final bill:

  • Printed back. A second printed side cost from £0 to £147 extra. You only need it if the back of the wall faces an aisle.
  • Artwork. Design charges ranged from £35 to £195 per artwork where suppliers charge for a graphic design service. FREE artwork design or proofing on every order.
  • Lights. Clip-on LED lights for fabric walls were priced up to £97.
  • Delivery. Standard UK delivery for one wall ranged from £0 to £24.99. FREE UK delivery on orders of £200 or more.
  • Fire rating. If the organiser asks for flame-retardant materials, check the rating on each product page before you order. The Soft Touch 3m wall and Textile pop-up wall are listed as DIN 4102-1 B1; the Expovision roller banners are listed as not fire rated.

Once you have the right exhibition hardware, the graphic does the selling. Our guide to designing a trade show booth covers exhibition stand design and readable text sizes, and for a shell scheme space read our shell scheme stand design guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best portable exhibition stand for a small business on a budget?

For a 3m x 2m or 3m x 3m space, a 3m fabric wall plus a fabric desk gives the most stand for the money: £716.90 ex VAT with the Soft Touch 3m wall and the 1m x 1m fabric desk. On a tight budget, start with the wall.

Which portable stand is easiest to set up?

A roller display is quickest: pull the graphic up and clip it to the pole. For a full back wall, a pop up frame opens in one movement, and tension fabric kits such as the WaveLine Media WLMEE are specified at 5 to 10 minutes without tools.

What is the lightest professional exhibition stand for one person?

The Soft Touch 3m fabric wall has a 6.5kg shipping weight. Add a 2.9kg roller display and you have a complete display under 10kg.

Do portable stands work in shell scheme spaces?

Yes, if they fit inside the walls. Measure the usable width and the height under the fascia board, then choose a freestanding wall that is narrower and lower.

How much does a portable exhibition stand cost?

From £55.95 ex VAT for a single 600mm pull up display stand, £388.95 for a 3m fabric wall and £999.95 for a complete 3m x 3m starter kit with wall, upright display and counter. Add stand space, power and travel on top.

What is the most portable type of exhibition stand?

A pull up banner stand. The 600mm Expovision weighs 1.4kg and the A4 desktop version has a 0.3kg package weight. For a full back wall, the Soft Touch 3m fabric wall is the lightest here at a 6.5kg shipping weight, and it packs into one bag.

What sizes do portable display stands come in?

Expovision pull up banners run from 600mm to 1000mm wide at 2000mm tall. The Soft Touch frame comes in sizes from 850mm to 6m, pop up walls come in 3×2 (1525mm wide) and 3×3 (2260mm wide), and complete kits are built for a 3m x 3m space. Choose a stand to suit the space you book most often.

Does a portable display stand look professional enough for large trade shows?

On shell scheme and smaller space-only stands, yes, as long as the wall, counter and upright displays are printed to match. For bigger space-only plots, modular stands and LED kits give more height and light, and many portable frames can be combined into a bigger layout.

How do I attract visitors to my exhibition stand?

Put one clear headline high on the back wall so it reads over people’s heads, keep the front of the space open rather than blocking it with a table, and use light if the hall is dim. A tablet stand for demos and a counter at a front corner give people a reason to stop. One strong message will make a lasting impression on more visitors than a wall full of text at your next event.

Are portable stands worth the investment?

If you exhibit more than once, usually yes. A £388.95 fabric wall used at four shows costs under £100 per show, and the same frame works at any trade show or exhibition with a space of the right size. Get your display shortlist from our full range of portable exhibition stands.
