Price a 3m exhibition backwall at a few UK suppliers and you’ll see anything from £300 to £650 before VAT. Pop up stand prices are just as hard to read: the headline figure rarely tells you what is in the box.
That looks like a simple choice between cheap and premium. But heights differ, one price includes a printed back while another doesn’t, and one comes with a case while another comes with nothing.
So we fixed one specification: a straight, unlit 3m fabric wall on a push-fit frame, printed, with a carry bag.
Then we priced 13 walls that met every part of it from 7 UK suppliers, plus lit walls and complete 3m × 3m kits: 69 public offers in all.
Once the products really are identical, how much should one cost, and why do the prices still differ?
Here’s what we found.
Like for like, the dearest 3m display stand costs 2.1x the cheapest
You might expect the price spread to disappear once every wall meets the same specification, but it doesn’t.
Here is the lowest like-for-like price we found at each supplier:
Double-sided walls ran from £309.95 to £650.00 ex VAT, and every one of them met the same specification.
Most suppliers sat much closer together than that, though. The median of all 13 prices was £399.00, and the middle half ran from £335.00 to £446.95.
So a quote far outside that band is a signal to ask what’s different about the product, or about the service that comes with it.

A printed back on a fabric display adds anything from £0 to £147
The biggest single difference between suppliers sits on the back of the wall. Some print the reverse side, and some leave it plain.
Here is what each supplier charges to print the second side of the same product:
Two suppliers printed both sides for the price of one, and five of the eight charged £50 or less extra.
Then the gap opens: Go Displays charged £147.00 more for the reverse, adding 29% to the price of the wall.
In other words, the same decision can cost nothing or add over a hundred pounds. On lightboxes, the same choice ranged from £0 to £170.00.
The same frame costs 31% more at one retailer
Several UK retailers sell exactly the same manufactured Formulate frame, at the same 2.95 × 2.38m size. That makes it the cleanest comparison in the whole study.
Here is what each of them charges for it with a printed graphic and a bag:
The dearest charged £440.00 and the cheapest £335.00, while one of the cheaper offers even includes double-sided print.
Sidenote: These are separate retail offers of one manufactured system, not independent designs. The frame is identical; the print, options, delivery and service around it are not.
So if you’ve already chosen a frame system, it pays to get the same product quoted at two or three retailers before you buy.
So why do near-identical exhibition walls cost different amounts?
On paper, these walls are almost the same product. Every one uses an aluminium push-fit frame and a dye-sublimation printed stretch polyester graphic that zips shut at the base, and every one comes in a bag.
The differences sit around the wall rather than in it:

Artwork is the biggest hidden cost. GH Display and XL Displays charge £195 to design the graphic, while Marler Haley starts from £40.
That’s why we include artwork design in our £388.95 price and deliver free on orders over £200. Add XL Displays’ £195 design charge and £15 delivery to its £335.00 wall, and the total is £545.00.
Speed is the other lever. Discount Displays, the cheapest wall we found, is open about the trade-off:
Our budget fabric backwall has a longer 8-10 working days lead time than our premium models, so is better suited for ordering in advance of events. More expensive models also have a wider range of available sizes.
Discount Displays, budget straight fabric backwall
Hardware warranties ran from one year to five years on the Formulate frame at Displays UK, which matters if you plan to reuse the frame for several shows.
The real budget reaches £977 with extras and VAT
None of the backwalls we compared included lights, and artwork design and delivery sit outside most headline prices, too.
Where suppliers priced those extras on the same product page, they looked like this:

If you want a lit wall instead, that’s a different product altogether: single-sided lightboxes in our sample cost £899 to £2,063 ex VAT.
Complete 3m × 3m portable exhibition stands are harder still to compare. Only one of the eight suppliers we checked priced two walls, a printed counter and transport in a single number.
Pop up displays by size: what a 3×3 pop up display costs
The study priced one tightly defined wall. Most buyers comparing pop ups for a trade show are choosing between a few frame types and sizes, so here is how the same questions apply across our own range of pop ups. These are Stand Central’s current prices, ex VAT, shown for context; they are not part of the study sample.
In this study every wall price included custom printed graphics, while delivery options varied; check the same two lines on any pop up stands UK suppliers list. First, the sizes. On pop ups (sometimes written popup), a 3×3 describes the frame grid, cubes high by cubes wide, not metres. Our Textile 3×3 wall, for example, is 2,260mm wide.

Whichever display system you choose as your exhibition backdrop, the price steps follow the same logic as the study: what sits around the frame. A fabric pop-up wall is the aluminium frame, a printed fabric graphic and a wheeled carry bag. A fabric pop up stand with counter adds a matching printed counter. The straight PVC pop up display kit uses printed graphic panels in PVC on a scissor-lattice frame, each graphic panel attached with magnetic strips (often called magnetic bars), and comes with two LED lights and a wheeled case that converts into a counter.
Fabric pop up stands or PVC: which pop up systems to compare?
Lightweight fabric versions win on weight: our Textile 3×3 wall weighs 9.3kg, and you can leave the fabric graphic attached to the pop up frame when you pack it away. PVC panel systems are heavier (26.5kg packed for the 3×3 kit) but come with lights and a counter case. Both use an aluminium scissor-style pop up stand frame and are tool-free to assemble. Curved pop up and straight pop up versions are both available, the curved one giving a gentle curve. Fabric pop up stands use printed fabric graphics and dimensions vary slightly by system, so check the product page before you order artwork, and a straight wall suits a shell scheme stand design backwall.
What to add to pop up exhibition stands: counters and a pop up banner
Pop ups work as trade show displays and as a promotional display at conferences, so they suit most exhibitions and events. Most exhibitors build a pop up exhibition stand out from the backwall, turning it into a display package for the stand space: a counter, a roller banner either side (see our roller banners), and a brochure stand for the exhibition. A pop up banner, another name for a roller banner stand, is the cheapest way to add height at the front.
Final thoughts on pop up stand prices
A 3m backwall isn’t an expensive or mysterious product. The middle half of the like-for-like walls we priced sat within £112 of each other.
The real differences come from what sits around the frame: whether the back is printed, who designs the artwork, and the extras that the headline price leaves out. It’s one line in a wider stand budget, so it pays to get it right.
So before you compare quotes from different suppliers, make sure you are comparing the same four things:
- Size: width, height, frame type and printed sides
- The box: bag, feet, lights, counter
- Extras: delivery to your address and any artwork charge
- VAT: ex VAT compared with ex VAT

In the study, like-for-like 3m fabric walls with print and a bag cost £299.95 to £503.00 single-sided, ex VAT, with a median of £399.00 across all 13 prices. Complete pop ups with a counter cost more; ours start at £700.95 ex VAT for our smallest pop-up stand with fabric print and a counter.
Are graphics included in pop up stand prices?
For the walls in our study, yes: a printed graphic and a bag were part of the specification, and our pop ups are also priced with the printed graphic included. A second printed side, lights, artwork design and delivery often were not included in the study prices, so check each line before comparing.
Are portable pop ups easy to assemble and transport?
The pop ups above are tool-free to assemble and come with a carry bag or wheeled case. Fabric pop ups are the lighter option if one person is setting up the exhibition stand.
Can I leave the fabric graphic attached when I pack the display away?
On our Textile fabric walls and stands, yes. The product pages say the graphic can stay on the frame when packing away, which makes the next exhibition setup quicker.

The frame snaps together without the need for additional tools and can be assembled by one person in approximately 10 minutes; two people are recommended for widths of 3m and above.

The 260gsm Disp | carry bag included with every order. At 5.1kg for the 1m size through to 11.7kg for the 6m, the smaller sizes are genuinely one-person portable, while the larger widths are manageable with two people.
