The fabric vs LED exhibition stand choice mostly comes down to budget, whether you can get power, and how busy the trade show hall is. Fabric is the cheaper, lighter option and works well in a bright hall. LED costs more and needs a power supply, but the backlit graphics stand out from further away. For a 3m x 3m space our fabric Starter Kit starts at £999.95 ex VAT and the LED Kit at £2,374.95, so lighting more than doubles the price.
Below is what’s actually in each of our fabric and LED kits, the space each one fits and which one I’d pick for different exhibitors. Prices are our live prices, ex VAT with the printed graphics included, checked on 21 October 2026.

What comes in a fabric display or LED stand kit
A kit is a set of display products sold as one package, so the wall, counter and banner all match and the sizes are planned to work together. It also makes the price easier to compare. In our display inclusions research, only one of the eight UK suppliers we checked priced two walls, a printed counter and transport in a single number, so most stands are hard to compare like for like. Every kit below includes:
- Custom printed graphics, made by dye-sublimation print on polyester fabric.
- Aluminium frames that push together by hand, so there are no tools to pack.
- Carry bags or a wheeled case for transport and storage.
- A one-year hardware warranty (graphics excluded).
All of these kits are made for indoor exhibitions and promotional events. Product names that end in “w/ Lit Stand” include a literature stand for brochures, not lighting.
Fabric and LED exhibition stand kits compared
| Kit | Space | From, ex VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Starter Kit 3×3 | 3m x 3m | £999.95 |
| Starter Kit 3×3 with literature stand | 3m x 3m | £1,099.95 |
| L-shaped stand with counter | 3m x 3m | £1,327.95 |
| 6m x 3m L-shaped stand | 6m x 3m | £1,758.95 |
| 3m x 6m Starter XL Kit | 3m x 6m | £2,099.95 |
| LED Kit 3×3 | 3m x 3m | £2,374.95 |
| LED XL Kit 3×6 | 3m x 6m | £2,899.95 |
Each kit also comes in a version with a literature stand for brochures. That adds £100 to the 3m x 3m Starter Kit and £25 to the Starter XL and both LED kits. Here’s what each kit gives you on the stand:
- Starter Kit 3×3. A 2.4m straight fabric display that covers most of a 3m wide stand, a tall monolith banner for your headline (you choose the width), and a square counter to talk across.
- L-shaped 3m x 3m. Two 3m fabric walls joined at the corner and printed on both sides, which is what you want on a corner space, plus a square counter.
- Starter XL Kit 3×6. A 6m back wall with a 3m side wall at 90 degrees, so a 3m x 6m space is covered on two sides, plus the monolith banner and the counter.
- LED Kit 3×3. A lit SEG fabric pop-up wall just under 3m wide, so it fills the back of the stand, and two 2m tall LED lightboxes to stand in front of it.
- LED XL Kit 3×6. The same lit backdrop and lightboxes, plus a 1m tall LED lightbox counter.

Which modular kit suits your space
Start with the floor plan the organiser sent you and the event requirements in the exhibitor manual. A kit that is too big for the space is a problem on the day, and one that is too small leaves an empty stand. Our modular exhibition stands are sized to the common UK spaces:
- 3m x 3m with one open side. The Starter Kit’s 2.4m wall covers most of the back of the stand, and the counter and banner sit at the front.
- 3m x 3m corner space with two open sides. The L-shaped stand puts graphics on the back and one side wall, and because both walls are double sided the side wall works from the aisle too.
- 3m x 6m inline space. The Starter XL Kit or the 6m x 3m L-shaped stand. Both give you a 6m back wall and a 3m return.
- Smaller than 3m x 3m. Look at our LED lightbox stand kits, which start at 2m x 2m (from £2,226.95 ex VAT), or build a stand from single exhibition walls.
If your show has given you a shell scheme, the walls already exist, so a full kit may be more than you need. A counter and a banner stand can be enough there, and our checklist of what to bring covers the rest.

Is an LED exhibition stand worth the extra over stretch fabric
This is the biggest price step, so I think it is worth being honest about when lighting earns its keep. The fabric kits use stretch fabric graphics on push-fit aluminium frames. The LED kits use LED lightboxes with backlit graphics and a lit SEG fabric pop up stand, so the fabric display works the same way but with the light behind the print.
Choose a fabric kit if
- This is your first show, or you exhibit a few times a year and want to keep the cost down.
- You are setting up on your own. Fabric stands are the lighter option and pack small, for example 5kg for the 2.4m wall and 10.5kg for the counter.
- Your stand is in a well lit hall, or you would rather not order power for the stand.
Choose an LED kit if
- You are in a big hall with a lot of other stands around you and need to be seen from a distance.
- You can order a power supply from the organiser. Lightboxes need electricity, and power is usually ordered separately from the space.
- You are happy handling heavier boxes. Each 2m lightbox package weighs 13kg to 14kg and the lit backdrop 13.5kg, with a wheeled case.
The LED kits use SEG fabric, which means the graphic has a silicone edge that pushes into a channel in the aluminium frame. That gives a tight, flat finish with the backlight coming through it.

Tension fabric vs SEG graphics and the aluminium frames behind them
Both types use a fabric graphic made by dye-sublimation printing on polyester, so the print itself is similar. The difference is the frame and what sits behind the graphic.
On the fabric kits the graphic is a tension fabric cover. It stretches over lightweight frames in aluminium and zips or pushes into place, so the frame sits hidden behind the print. The 3m x 3m L-shaped stand prints on both sides, which helps on a corner. The Soft Touch fabric graphics are machine washable at 30 degrees, which is handy if the stand is for repeated use at a lot of shows.
On the LED kits the fabric graphic is an SEG print that pushes into the frame channel, with LED lights behind it. The larger lightbox in each kit has double-sided graphics and the slimmer one is single-sided. These are illuminated displays, so the graphic glows rather than relying on the hall lighting. That is what makes LED light boxes easy to spot across a busy exhibition floor, more so than standard pop up stands, and it is also why they weigh more and need power.
If you’re not sure, I’d only spend on lighting once the basics are right. A well designed fabric display stand with clear graphics and signage usually does more than a lit stand with a weak message.
Portability and set-up of fabric display stands and LED stands
If you carry the stand yourself, weight matters as much as looks. The fabric kits are tension fabric displays on push-fit frames, so there are no tools to pack and everything goes into carry bags. The 2.4m fabric wall weighs 5kg, the 6m wall package 12kg and the counter package 10.5kg.
The LED kits are heavier. Each 2m lightbox package weighs 13kg to 14kg, the lit backdrop 13.5kg and the lit counter on the XL kit 15kg, and they travel in a wheeled case. They are still tool-free, but I would plan for two people and order power from the organiser in good time. If portability is your main concern, fabric display stands are the easier exhibition display to live with.

Which kit I would pick for each type of exhibitor
Here is how I would choose between fabric and LED, based on what each kit includes:
- First event on a budget. The stand kit for 3m x 3m. It covers a back wall, extra height and somewhere to talk to people for under £1,000 ex VAT.
- Handing out brochures. The Starter Kit with literature stand. The literature stand is 1300mm tall and keeps leaflets off the top.
- Corner space. The 3m x 3m L-shaped stand, so visitors coming down either aisle see your graphics.
- Bigger 3m x 6m space. The Starter XL Kit, which adds a 6m wall and keeps the monolith banner.
- Busy hall, premium look. The LED Kit 3×3, or the LED XL Kit if you have 3m x 6m and want a lit reception point as well.
- Products on shelves or a screen. Depending on the kit, our 3m x 6m inline kits add shelving, monitor mounts or backlit counters, from £3,497.95 ex VAT.
A kit or separate walls, counters and banner stands
You do not have to buy a kit. Every part of these stands is also sold on its own, so you can start with a wall and add a counter later from our exhibition counters. A kit makes sense when you need all of it now. Buying the parts separately lets you grow a stand over time. It also makes sense when you already own part of a stand, or when your space is an odd size.
If you want a curve rather than a straight back wall, our exhibition walls include curved fabric walls.
The other option is a smaller setup built around one item, such as a single lightbox, a pop up stand, a roller banner or a pair of banner stands. If you are weighing up a single LED lightbox stand against a standard pop up stand, the same rules apply as for the kits: lighting needs power and adds weight, and it is worth paying for in a busy, dimly lit hall. Some PVC pop up displays fix the graphic panels to the frame with magnetic strips, and in our research those display systems were heavier than fabric ones. Our guide to portable display stands compares those systems if you are not sure a full kit is right.

How to compare fabric display and LED kits before you buy
Fabric and LED stand kits are hard to compare between suppliers because each one puts different things in the box. Our research found the same thing with single walls, so before you buy any kit, check four things:
- Size. Width, height, frame type and whether you get print on one side or both.
- The box. Bags or cases, feet, lights, counter and literature stand.
- Extras. Delivery to your address and any design charge.
- VAT. Compare ex VAT with ex VAT.
It is also worth checking what the space itself costs before you set the budget. Our exhibition stand costs research found headline space-only rates from £125 to £1,100 per m², ex VAT, across 26 UK rate cards.

Frequently asked questions
Is a fabric or LED exhibition stand better for a first show?
For most first shows I would start with fabric. The 3m x 3m Starter Kit is £999.95 ex VAT and gives you a printed fabric wall, a tall monolith banner and a counter, all tool-free and packed in a carry bag. Go for LED if the hall is big and busy and you can order power.
How much more does an LED exhibition stand kit cost?
For a 3m x 3m space the LED Kit is £2,374.95 ex VAT against £999.95 for the fabric Starter Kit. For 3m x 6m it is £2,899.95 for the LED XL Kit against £2,099.95 for the fabric Starter XL Kit. Printed graphics are included, and UK delivery is free on orders of £200 or more.
Can the graphics on a fabric stand be replaced?
Yes. The printed fabric zips or pushes onto the frames, so you can order new ones for a different show or a rebrand and keep the same hardware. That is the main reason a kit can be reused across several events.
Do LED lightbox displays require electricity?
Yes. The lightboxes and the lit backdrop in our LED kits need mains power, and the power supply is listed as UK, US or EU standard. At most venues you order a power supply for your stand from the organiser, so check the cost and deadline in the exhibitor manual.
Can one person set up a fabric or LED stand?
The fabric kits use push-fit frames and need no tools, and you can dismantle them the same way. The 6m wall package weighs 12kg and the counter package 10.5kg. The lit kits are also tool-free, but each lightbox package weighs 13kg to 15kg, so a second pair of hands helps.
