If you are choosing between a PVC vs fabric pop up stand, the short answer is that PVC is the better pick when you want rigid printed panels, the widest graphic for a given size and a case that turns into a counter, and fabric is better when you want a lighter stand that packs away with the graphic still on and shows one image with no panel joins. For the plain walls, the price is close, so the choice comes down to how the stand looks, how you travel with it and how often you will put it up.
I have used products from our own range for every figure below, so you can compare like for like. Prices are ex VAT and were checked on our live product pages on 2 November 2026.

The two types use the same idea: an aluminium scissor frame that pops open and locks, with your printed graphic on the front. The difference is the graphic. On a PVC pop up, your design is printed on separate rigid panels that hang on the frame with magnetic bars. On a fabric pop up, it is printed by dye sublimation on one stretch fabric graphic that fixes around the frame, so the face of the stand has no joins.

What you get with a PVC pop up display stand
Our PVC pop up stands are the Vision Value walls and the Vision kits. The graphic panels are 550 micron pop up PVC, UV printed in full colour as standard, and they attach to the aluminium frame with magnetic strips. Both ranges are B1 fire rated and carry a 5 year frame warranty (excluding the graphic). The Vision Value 3x3 straight wall is 2,700mm wide, 2,240mm high and 306mm deep, and costs £538.95. It comes with a wooden top that turns the transport case into a counter.
If you want lights as well, the Vision straight 3x3 kit is £823.95 and adds two LED lights and a wheeled case that converts to a counter. The package weighs 26.5kg, so it is a kit you wheel rather than carry, but it gives you a backwall, lighting and a counter from one case.
Rigid panels give a firm, flat finish, and the frame stays out of sight behind them. The trade off is that the panels come off the frame every time you pack down and go back on in order when you set up, so there are more pieces to handle than with fabric.
One thing worth knowing is that not every panel pop up is PVC. Our Impact and Quick+ pop up stands also use magnetic panels, but the panels are PVC-free polyester, and our Pop Up Stand range uses a semi-rigid 500 micron panel that resists scratches and blocks light. If you like the panel look and would rather avoid PVC, those are the ranges to look at.
What you get with a stretch fabric pop-up display
A fabric pop up uses the same kind of folding frame, but the graphic is one piece of stretch fabric. We sell three types. The Textile straight fabric pop up wall is printed on 210gsm, 100% recycled polyester, is DIN 4102-1 B1 fire rated and is machine washable at 30°C. The 3x3 is 2,260mm wide, weighs 9.3kg and costs £524.95, with a wheeled carry bag. The graphic fixes with Velcro and can stay on the frame when you pack it away.
The Hop-up 3x3 fabric pop up stand is printed on 260gsm stretch polyester, is 2,260mm wide and 295mm deep, weighs 8kg and costs £554.95. Its graphic fixes around the frame edges with hook and loop, pulls taut and smooth, and the frame folds down with the graphic still attached. The third type is SEG, where a silicone edge sewn round the fabric pushes into the frame. Our SEG 3x3 straight stand is £620.95, and one person can build it in about 15 minutes.

Fabric has a matt finish with no joins, which is why it suits photos and large images. It is also more forgiving in transport, because there are no panel edges to scuff, and the bag is compact enough for a car boot. The thing to watch is light. Our SEG product page says fabric is not fully opaque, so strong light from above or behind can show the frame through the graphic. Keep bright lights behind the stand to a minimum.
Size of the graphic at 3x3 and 3x4
This is the difference most people miss. A 3x3 PVC pop up and a 3x3 fabric pop up are not the same size. Our PVC 3x3 walls are 2,700mm wide, while the fabric 3x3 stands are 2,240mm to 2,260mm wide. That is about 440mm less graphic on the fabric version. The height is close, at 2,240mm for the PVC walls and about 2,260mm for the fabric ones.
On a 3m wide plot, the PVC 3x3 fills most of the back wall, and the fabric 3x3 leaves more space at each side. If you want a fabric stand to fill the same plot, the Hop-up 3x4 and Textile 3x4 are both 2,995mm wide, at £681.95 and £629.95. So on a 3m plot, the fair comparison is often a PVC 3x3 against a fabric 3x4.

Weight, transport and setup at an event
For lightweight transport, fabric usually wins. The Hop-up 3x3 weighs 8kg and the Textile 3x3 weighs 9.3kg, each with a wheeled carry bag. The Vision Value 3x3 PVC wall has a package weight of 12kg, and the Vision kit with its counter case and lights is 26.5kg. If you travel by train, carry the stand up stairs or set up on your own, that difference matters.
Setup is also quicker with fabric in most cases, because the graphic is already on the frame. With a PVC pop up you open the frame, fit the magnetic bars where needed and hang each panel in order. Both types are tool-free to assemble, but the PVC version has more steps, and the panels need to go back in the case flat and in the right order at the end of the day.
If you exhibit outdoors or on uneven floors, check whether the stand has stabilising feet. Our SEG stands come with them, the Textile walls do not include them, and Hop-up stabilising feet are available separately at £94.95.
Magnetic vs Velcro pop up stand fixings
This is really the same question as PVC vs fabric, because the fixing follows the graphic. A magnetic pop up uses rigid panels that clip on to magnetic bars on the frame. It gives a crisp, flat finish and you can replace a single panel if one gets damaged. A Velcro or hook and loop fixing holds a stretch fabric graphic around the frame edges. It is faster to put up and take down, and the graphic usually stays on the frame between events.

Hop up vs traditional pop-up display
If you are comparing a Hop-up and a pop up, that is the main difference. Hop-up is our name for a fabric pop up stand whose graphic folds with the frame, so it goes up in one move. A traditional pop-up display uses magnetic panels that you fit after the frame is open.
Printing, artwork and the finish of each graphic
The printing method is different too. PVC panels are UV printed, which gives sharp, bright colour on a rigid surface. Fabric is dye sublimation printed, where the ink goes into the fibres rather than sitting on top, which gives rich colour. A fabric backdrop vs vinyl or PVC backdrop is mostly a choice between a soft matt look and a crisp, slightly glossy one.
Design-wise, fabric is easier because there are no joins to plan around. On a PVC pop up, keep small text and faces away from the panel joins. On both types, keep your logo and main brand message in the top half, where people can see it over a counter and the heads of visitors.
Every order includes FREE artwork design or proofing. You can send your own artwork for us to check before print, or our team will design it for you. The artwork guidelines cover the file setup, and each product has its own template to download. There is also FREE UK delivery on orders of £200 or more.

Cost, warranty and curved versions
Like for like, the cost is close. A straight 3x3 Textile fabric wall is £524.95, the Vision Value PVC wall is £538.95 and the Hop-up fabric stand is £554.95. The bigger price jumps come from what is in the box. The Vision PVC kit with lights and a counter case is £823.95, and the 3x3 Hop-up fabric stand and counter kit is £820.95.
The warranty is where PVC pulls ahead. Our Vision and Vision Value PVC frames carry a 5 year warranty (excluding the graphic), while the Textile fabric walls carry 1 year (excluding the graphic). Fabric graphics can be washed, and on the Hop-up range a new graphic can be printed for the same frame when your message changes. Both the PVC and Textile ranges are B1 fire rated, and our research into exhibition fire safety rules explains why venues ask for it.
Both types also come in curved versions at a similar price. If you are still deciding on shape, see my guide to a curved vs straight pop up stand. You can compare the whole range of pop up stands in one place, or browse our fabric display walls.
Which pop up stand to buy for your exhibition
- Choose PVC if you want the widest graphic for a 3x3, a crisp rigid finish, a longer frame warranty or a case that converts to a counter.
- Choose fabric if you travel light, set up on your own or want a stand that goes up quickly with the graphic already on.
- Choose fabric for big photos and full-bleed images, because there are no panel joins across the face.
- Choose a PVC-free panel range such as Impact if you like the panel look but would rather avoid PVC.
- On a 3m wide plot, compare a PVC 3x3 with a fabric 3x4, because they are close in width.
If it is your first trade show and you will be carrying the stand yourself, I would lean towards fabric. If you are an exhibitor who goes to shows often, uses the same stand for years and want lights and a counter in one case, a PVC kit is the more complete package. If you are weighing up fabric systems more widely, my guides to fabric wall vs pop up wall and SEG vs tension fabric go into the other options.
Frequently asked questions
Is a fabric pop up stand cheaper than a PVC one?
Only slightly, if at all. A straight 3x3 Textile fabric wall is £524.95 and the Vision Value PVC wall is £538.95, while the Hop-up fabric stand is £554.95. Remember the fabric 3x3 is about 440mm narrower, so per metre of graphic the PVC wall gives you more.
Which is lighter, PVC or fabric?
Usually the fabric one. Our Hop-up 3x3 weighs 8kg and the Textile 3x3 weighs 9.3kg, while the Vision Value 3x3 PVC wall has a package weight of 12kg. A complete Vision PVC kit with a counter case and lights weighs 26.5kg.
Can I wash a fabric pop up graphic?
Our Textile fabric graphics are machine washable at 30°C with little to no detergent, should not be tumble dried and can be ironed on low heat on the reverse. Check the care details on each product page, because they differ between ranges.
Do PVC pop up stands show joins in the graphic?
Yes, because the graphic is printed on separate panels that sit side by side on the frame. The joins are neat, but they are there. If you want one image with no joins, a fabric pop up or SEG stand is the better choice.
